Much of the dishonestly we see involves cheating that is 1 step away removed from cash. Cheating is a lot easier when it's a step removed from $. People can rationalize their dishonesty when it is 1 step away from cash.
It is estimated that when customers report losses on their homes & cars, they creatively stretch their claims by about 10%. Insurance company raises rates the situation becomes tit for tat.

Professions started somewhere deep in the past in religion & then spread to medicine & law.
Lawyers in Florida have been deemed the worse. Bar reported that a "substantial minority" were $-grabbing, too clever, tricky, sneaky, & not trustworthy.
Doctors do unnecessary surgeries to boost the bottom line. Drug companies bringing lunch.

Insurance industry , individuals add a bogus $24 billion on their claims of property loses. IRS estimates a loss of $350 billion per year, representing the gap between what the feds thing people should pay in taxes & what they do pay. Retail industry loses 16 billion a year from customers who buy clothes wear then tag in and return these 2nd hand clothes for a full refund.
