on gods dying every time: “We're born into the world we made, don't you see? We can’t help changing the world, we can’t not leave it redeemed, redirected, empowered. No matter how many ways they dream up to slaughter us, no matter how addled and useless we feel... It’s like how a forest fire renews the Earth.”

"Win today. Play demigod tomorrow." this strikes me as being backwards

"pharmaceuticals […] they were meant to help with my burden, instead, these poison tablets shattered my world, leaving me in endless gray hallways."

“You couldn’t possibly understand. Let’s just leave it at ‘bitches be crazy.’ You’ll buy that, right?” Heh. They usually do.

“‘We didn't create this thing, […] This nation was ready to fall. We're God's messengers.’” Chills.

"entities streamed information into her, in the code she thought in before her thoughts became language" Makes me think of how we think…

"Autumn wasn't the same in the desert as it was in a deciduous climate, he thought. But you could still feel it in your bones it felt like they were approaching a turning point, a true point of no return." I love that—Autumn really is the point of no return and you can feel it, wherever you are (I wonder what it's like in the Southern Hemisphere).

With each passing page, I'm more and more convinced these ARE the gods they claim to be. Also, it reminds me of the other side of Snow Crash (huge hive mind flash mobs), of the Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul (gods walk among us), and of Sophie's World/Atlas Shrugged (novel-as-vehicle-for-philosophical-treastise) mashed up furiously. And deliciously.

"with a spring in his shamble"! It took me a bit to get into this book, but now I'm quite enjoying it. It seems to be written in an engaging combination of third-and first-person (that is, it feels written in first-person but the character narrating thinks of himself in the third person).
