Érika I disagree :) The present moment is but a consequence of what happened in the past. You are a consequence of your parents marriage in the past, for example.

What Tolle means is not the present 'situation' (set of material conditions, objectively measurable like your weight, concrete knowledge or collection of memories) but rather the very now, the only thing that we can experience with our senses. Well, it's a difficult thing to grasp, and ever more so - to describe or explain. We should talk more on this some time soon ;)
