Carra 212!!! And here I thought *I* was brave putting in a mere 70. ;) I can only blame my art for taking up so much of my reading time. ;)

Jennifer D WOW! How many books did you read in 2011? (Clearly I am too lazy to click and find out! Haha.)

True: you would have an advantage if your painting actually required you to read!

211. But many of them are children's books and graphic novels. You will slow me down a little with Kristin Lavransdatter but I will recover!

Jennifer D Hee hee hee!! I was looking at your read in 2011 shelf earlier, and a lot of books (not children's or GNs) aren't rated. I m curious about this? Do you not rate or review a lot of your reads on GR? (I will confess to not looking at your profile for quite a while so it's not fresh in my head.)

Buried In Print I have mixed feelings about ratings; sometimes, for instance, there is a book that I once really loved that I've re-read and not-loved, and, other times, I really admire a book and might think it's worth rating with 5 stars for a particular quality but there was something else about the read that really put me off (say, a theme that I've over-read in lately), so I don't know what to do with that either. Sometimes it seems very simple to me, and other times, not: depends on the book. Make any sense?

message 7: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer D Yeah, that makes sense - I understand what you are feeling. I have trouble with the 5-star ratings too because I could rate two books @5-star, but that doesn't make them comparable. I also loathe 3-star ratings. I do like seeing what my friends have given to books though, as I trust a lot of their tastes and at least I get an "I'm in the ballpark" sense of a book. Sorry...rambling!! :)

Iris Congrats! Can't believe you read so many books!

Misha Wow! Congrats!

Buried In Print Thanks. There are quite a few graphic novels and children's books in there too, but I have a huge stack of books that I plan to read before the end of the year, too, so I'm pleased.

Carra WOW!
I am soooo impressed!
Congratulations on an awesome accomplishment! You are truly an inspiring boktok. ;)

Buried In Print Thanks, Carra. It's a wee bit of insanity, I know. But there are some new favourites amongst this lot, so I cannot complain for an instant.

Misha What are the best books you have read this year? :)

message 14: by Buried In Print (new)

Buried In Print But the year isn't done yet! Have you already made your list? I'm superstitious that way, as though if I made the list now, I'd be doomed to read disappointing books for the remainder of December!

i just started working on my best of 2012 list yesterday, funnily enough...but i am still waiting to see how things i read in the next two weeks fare. :)

Buried In Print I've always been lucky enough to have at least one full reading day around the holidays, and I often spend it reading things that I wasn't planning to read at all (which isn't like me...always a plan, y'know), so I hold out great hope for last-minute "bests".

message 17: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer D ooh, that sounds like a great day! i always hold out for last minute WOW too!! :) speaking of which - i finished the patchett and loved it! it really made me think about a lot of ideas.

Buried In Print Is it a contender for your list?

I keep on adding to my list throughout the year. I completely get what you mean though. I am still waiting for more favorites to be added to my list.
