This book has a lot of interesting things to say about homophobia, consumerism, sexism, racism, "liberalism", and the interconnections between violence against humans and violence against animals. However, it's also so graphic in its depictions of extreme acts of cruelty that I found myself unable to read whole scenes. I found it simultaneously gripping and absolutely repellent, and I don't think I'd recommend it, unfortunately. Its good bits are just a bit too hidden in all the horror.
