Well-written but pretty boring because Banville doesn't concentrate on a few key characters. Also, the "evil" being perpetrated is evil but not so evil that you can balance a who-dunnit plot on it. And I would have gotten rid of the Staffords altogether; Chloe especially disappears in a way that says, "My Editor wanted it shorter." I was expecting more here. Lush Life is fun to read, the story is engaging despite being pretty stock, yet the characters could all be fleshed out more, with some eliminated to make room for said fleshing out. Too many of them -- Yolanda being the best example -- exist almost entirely in dialogue.
