I really enjoying this book. It takes place mostly on Yamacraw Island, SC. This book is about Pat Conroy teaching on Yamacraw Island, SC. The children of that island needed some help learning and they got a wonderful teacher in Pat Conroy! He taught them about the outside world and that they could learn. He took them off the island a few times and he paid dearly for it with the political beings of the school system.
