Heard about this title from Stephen Fry's fantastic "The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive" (usually on YouTube somewhere). It's mostly about the author's manic moments, which is understandable since those were the moments in his life most fraught with action. He eventually undergoes 20 electric shock therapy treatments (when 4-5 is the norm) and, with medication, assumes something of a relatively normal life. Somewhat disappointing. There were few laugh out loud moments with this latest offering from Sedaris. You do learn more about Hugh and the longer-short-story at the end about his attempt to quit smoking in Japan is rather well done. But the entire volume falls a little flat. Sedaris has a certain cadence to his stories and here you find yourself anticipating them or wondering just how he's going to strike that traditional ending tone, instead of being pleasantly surprised or moved at the end.
