I read these back when they were first released back in 1991 (am I dating myself now?) and it was a huge concept to write vampire romance fiction for teens (Stephenie Meyers aint' the first).

Not a bad book per say, but not the best either. It picked up well into halfway through the book but I still felt some of the scenes were put in there for little more than shock value than anything else.

The only thing this closing entry to the series had to offer was the development of another relationship amongst all the characters. The book dragged beginning, middle and end. It reminded me of comic books or soap operas sometimes where no one is ever really dead. I'm still trying to fathom the fact that I just read 3, count 'em - THREE, 600+ page books in less the two weeks. I sped through these books and discovered why so many people are loving these.

Thoroughly enjoyed the third book in the series, well more than I thought I was going to at this stage in the game. I still had some minor hang-ups with Bella and her sometimes self indulgent actions (sometimes growing highly frustrated with the character to the point of intense frustration) but this story overrode the problems I had with the second book in the series.

I love it when you can fall for all of the characters enough to care about whatever they're doing - such as I said earlier, growing frustrated with them and their choices.

Looking forward to the next one.
