No Rob, I haven't yet, but I'll take that as a recommendation. In fact, why don't you recommend it to me here on GoodReads so I remember to read it.

This one does seem rough at times (I'm about 50% through it) but I'm hearing things I don't remember hearing back when they happened. Coming from a pretty run o' the mill conservative evangelical community, it's nice to see what the Church of England and the mainline US Prots and Catholics said.

The biggest "life-changer" book for me has been Irresistible Revolution by Shane Claiborne. If you haven't read it, you can borrow it, but you'll have to get in line. :-)

What started as an idea in the early 1990s has grown to become a growing national network of high schools in many of America's toughest urban environments. GR Kearney tells the story of the Cristo Rey Network which started as the small Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Chicago in 1994 and has grown to include nearly 2 dozen schools nationwide. Kearney tells the story from several perspectives, interviewing founding members of the faculty, staff and board of the school as well as weaving tales of students throughout the pages. Kearney himself volunteered at the original Cristo Rey school and lends a perspective that is critical to understanding the Cristo Rey story.

This book is a must read for those looking to make a difference, or at least want to read about some people who have, in the lives of thousands of innercity youth in America's urban battlefields.

This is one of my favorite books that encompass modern "saints of the faith." (my term, not Yancey's) I love how he covers a variety of believers, from Dillard to Nouwen and tons in between, and even spends a chapter on Ghandi, explaining how he influenced Yancey's faith despite his own rejections of Christian belief. It's very personal and revealing, explaining Yancey's own Pilgrim's Progress away from a bigoted chhurch to a more loving, honest walk with Christ.

I'd recommend it to anyone/everyone, especially those who are frustrated with a bitter, hostile "Christianity" and are looking for encouragement and mentorship within the faith.

I would say that this is a "Top Five" book for me. Shane goes into depth about the passionate, loving way he and others are living for Christ in the world today. Skeptics and critics call them crazy or "radical," I came away encouraged and with the feeling that I need to reevaluate how I'm living and see how it meshes with God's Word. Awesome.
