2001: A Space Odyssey is a classic in the world of Science Fiction. The story flows through time and space, giving different glimpses of the world, as created by Arthur C. Clarke. The novel begins with the Ape-Men, then passes to follow pieces of various lives, until it reaches the story of the Discovery, sent on a mission after a large, alien artifact is found on the moon. This story follows the idea that an alien race has been tampering with the evolution of man on earth. The most commonly known portion of the story is the journey of the Discovery, and the super-computer used on board: HAL. This novel is quite easy to read, although I personally had some difficulty getting through it, due to my clastrophobia (I see books play out very vividly in my mind, making them all the more real), but once I could get past my fear, I finished the book quickly. As I said before, it is a classic, and anyone interested in Science Fiction needs to read this at some point in their life. I would highly recommend it, as it is an interesting read, that, as I said previously, covers time and space!

My mom always says that you can't judge a series until you've read the ending. A series may be really good, but if the authors butchers the ending, then the series is ruined for you, but if the author has some "mad, genious" skills, the series is the best thing ever. That is the case with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. JK Rowling brilliantly tied up all the loose ends and brought this series to a magnificent, triumphant end. Throughout the books she drew closer and closer to the truth, but without telling the reader everything that was going on. I had my opinions as to what was going to happen, but I didn't know how it could possibly work out in the end. Well was I suprised when my suspicions were confirmed, and at the same time BLOWN AWAY! Rowling didn't end everything happy, far from it, but she crafted a story the ended for the best, but with some sorrow too. I never could have guessed how amazing this series would turn out! To think that all the loose ends would weave together to become a compelling and amazing story. Now, I have even more respect for the series, and rereading the other books, I see that Rowling had a master plan all along. The Forest of Hands and Teeth is the story of a young girl who lives in a world quite different from anything we know or understand. The town is a small, rural town controlled by the Sisterhood and the Guardians, and this town is fenced in; or out depending on your point of view. The reason for the fence: zombies. The main character is a young girl that has doubts about the Sisterhood and Guardians. Her doubts continue to grow, especially once she is forced to stay with them, and discovers a girl that the Sisterhood is hiding. In the end, Mary must make a startling decision that could save, or destroy her world.
This novel was one of the most startling books I have ever read. It took characters that everyone can compare to even though their situation is so different than anything one might experience. The main character, Mary, is a brave, smart girl, who has strong leadership skills. Even when her decisions may not turn out for the best she still manages to work for the best of everyone she is with. The writing was amazing. This is one "killer" first novel for Carrie Ryan and I cannot wait for the next one. I personally respected that not everything turned out perfect in the end. Some people die, but the story goes on. Too often books are complete fantasy and end everything perfectly, but this story connects to everyone, because everyone has experienced loss at some point in their lives.
