One of my favorite authors. I know some people find popular NY Times top 10 bestselling fiction a bit trite in terms of writing quality, but Harlen Coben manages to write simply while retaining the most clever ability to throw out zingers. This book takes place around Ridgewood so it's really fun for a Bergen County native to get into half the places he mentions. And the story just sucks you right in....less

"Huge Harlan Coben fan. His aptitude for suspense can keep me up all night turning pages. Once I get into a book of his, I can't put it down. The pace is excellent.

"A favorite from my teen years. Still relevant after all these years, in my opinion. Thank god I'm so much older now, though. Who'd ever want to go back to that age, after you've read this!

So there's a good reason why the masses love this book. The first third of the book I wasn't so convinced, to be honest. I have my own dog, and though I love my own crazy world she creates with her mishaps, I don't always love to read all about someone else's dog. I think the thing is, though, you just have to kind of go with this one, because you find yourself getting emotionally attached to this family, and to Marley of course. I don't know why, but I must be the only idiot who didn't realize it's a tribute and that he dies at the end. THAT was a problem, because I was a driveling mess every time I looked at my own dog and realized our time together was finite. I've been hugging her a little more every day--the book gave me a sense of gratitude for having the love and loyalty of my best furry friend. ...less

I read the reviews and figured, I'll give it a shot. The story was interesting--about an older teenager who gets his girlfriend pregnant and it's all from his young point of view. As a female, I found it an interesting look into the male mind. I definitely recommend it, as it really affected me. I'm going to read more of his books soon....less

If you see my other review for Robert Kurson's debut book, it's surprising I only gave this 3 stars. I did like it, but didn't love it. The story was pretty good--about a guy who went blind and then had a procedure that gave his sight back. THe book followed his life before, during and after this all took place and what it was like to see again. I mean, can you imagine how extraordinary that is??? I enjoyed his account, but didn't feel it was as strong as his first effort. I'd recommend it if the topic interests you, but i don't know that it's a must-read....less

One of the best non-fiction books around. I had read a ton of reviews about this book when it came out, and I had no interest at first. Yet, I became intrigued when I picked it up at the bookstore one day and read a few pages. AMAZING book. I have never had interest in scuba diving, or history, or technical descriptions, etc, and yet this book went into all the things of disinterest and made me engage completely. The true story of a group of men who discovered a previously unknown war submarine was way more than a tale of the sea--it was all about the men's mindset, how they risked marriages and lives to explore their discovery over a long 10 years. The story was captivating, and Robert Kurson is awesome. As a side note, I was so moved by his book that I emailed him a letter asking him some questions about his background (he was a lawyer and former newspaper writer) and told him a little about my own. He actually wrote me the nicest email back that wasn't simply a pat response, but well thought out and kind and encouraging. He's got my support, plain and simple....less
