I have not read the book, but some of the lies seem like straw men like the argument that the US is uniquely guilty of slavery. Enslaving, conquering others is in the DNA of humanity and I'm not sure many historians posit that the US is uniquely guilty. However, while not being uniquely guilty, the enslavement of Africans in the US is a horrible chapter in our nation's history one who's consequences are still reverberating in the 21st century and something that Americans should feel guilt and sorrow for.

"There's scant reason to believe that today's African Americans would be better off had their ancestors remained behind in Africa." Medved's statement here is abhorrent because in no way was slavery ever a benefit to Africans. The relative wealth that descendants of slaves now possess is in no way a justification, excuse for slavery.
