Skylark by Meagan Spooner
Skylark (Skylark, #1)
by Meagan Spooner (Goodreads Author)
I found this book surprisingly good. It took an overly used idea (post apocalypse) and managed to put an interesting spin on it. I felt satisfied by the end, but still wanting more, as any good book should do.

Defiance (Defiance, #1)
by C.J. Redwine (Goodreads Author)
I think that C.J. Redwine has an excellent way with words, and the story often took on an almost poetic atmosphere. It was an entertaining read, and fairly original as well. I felt that the romance between the two main characters was a little forced,...more

“And then, in boating supplies, Margo located an air horn. She took it out of the box and held it up in the air, and I said, "No," and she said, "No what?" And I said, "No don't blow the air horn," except when I got to the b in blow, she squeezed on it and it let out an excruciatingly loud honk that felt in my head like the auditory equivalent of an aneurysm, and then she said, "I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you. What was that?" And I said, "Stop b-" and then she did it again.”

“Those of us who frequent the band room have long suspected that Becca maintains her lovely figure by eating nothing but the souls of kittens and the dreams of impoverished children.”

“The way I figure it, everyone gets a miracle. Like, I will probably never be struck by lightening, or win a Nobel Prize, or become the dictator of a small nation in the Pacific Islands, or contract terminal ear cancer, or spontaneously combust. But if you consider all the unlikely things together, at least one of them will probably happen to each of us. I could have seen it rain frogs. I could have stepped foot on Mars. I could have been eaten by a whale. I could have married the Queen of England or survived months at sea. But my miracle was different. My miracle was this: out of all the houses in all the subdivisions in all of Florida, I ended up living next door to Margo Roth Spiegelman.”

The aftermath of the Element War from one hundred and nine years ago still lingers, haunting both Manips and Nons. Mona's life is upturned when she is accused of being an illegal Manipulator, and is thrown into a world where the most powerful people of both sides struggle to gain power, and protect their people. ***NOTE*** This story is in it's roughest stage.
