The Devil Wears Prada, except it's Dracula in pink heels this time. Very fun and light-hearted, although I found myself more drawn to the "chicky-lit" aspects of the story and more apt to flip over the extraneous vampire storyline.

Nancy Moser is in my top 3 when it comes to Contemporary Christian writing, but this story just did not dazzle me like the rest of her library. This just felt cheesy and contrived.

A strong, solid Picoult about the repercussions and implications of a tragic school shooting. Loved the story, the attention to detail, the raw emotion conveyed through the characters, but I'm getting a tad weary of the formulaic "adolescent encounte ...more

Another solid Kinsella! I just wish I'd have the pesky problem of waking up younger, more successful, and more beautiful! ;)

A fascinating story, weighed down by just a bit too much detail...

Fabulous idea with a ridiculously weak execution. I don't know what went wrong, but this just didn't work.

“When I look in the fridge, I see groceries, but I don't see food. My stomach growls; but there is no appetite.

Appetite and hunger are different. Appetite is the mental prompting that kicks the auto-response into drive so you actually reach out, take the food, put it in your mouth, chew, and swallow. I learned this in my first psychology course. Eating isn't just a physical need; it starts in the mind, generating hunger, which then should trigger the body to ingest food. I have no sparks between these plugs.”
Julie Gregory, Sickened: The True Story of a Lost Childhood

Marya Hornbacher
“And so I went through the looking glass, stepped into the netherworld, where up is down and food is greed, where convex mirrors cover the walls, where death is honor and flesh is weak. It is ever so easy to go. Harder to find your way back.”
Marya Hornbacher, Wasted: A Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia

Sylvia Plath
“If neurotic is wanting two mutually exclusive things at one and the same time, then I'm neurotic as hell. I'll be flying back and forth between one mutually exclusive thing and another for the rest of my days.”
Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar

Erich Fromm
“It is naively assumed that the fact that the majority of people share certain ideas and feelings proves the validity of these ideas and feelings. Nothing could be further from the truth. Consensual validation as such has no bearing on reason or mental health.”
Erich Fromm

“The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.”
