Okay, I'll be honest: I hardly ever read detectives. Not because it's not in line with my principles but simply because I can't be bothered with the work that comes with it. I already have a daytime job and solve problems on a regular basis there.

Writing and funny. I do not encounter that combination too often. But this book had me laughing out loud from page 1. And I was highlighting memorable quotes as if I was preparing for an exam.

A book about a wonderful friendship between two Jews. Two boys who are very far apart in the Jewish spectrum. At least, that's what I've learned by reading this novel. Beforehand, I simply would have put them in the same category of Orthodox Jews, fo ...more

Typical story to read and discuss in English class. The theme of greed remains relevant even after almost 90 years. But as a story it does not completely catch me and the style seems a little, well, dated.

Thomas Rosenboom, De rode loper

Siri Hustvedt
“He was one of those people in New York who was purported to "know everybody". "Knowing everybody" is a phrase that denotes not having many relations with people but having relations with a few people generally thought to be significant and powerful.”
Siri Hustvedt, What I Loved

J. Bernlef

Zeker is niets.”
Judith Schalansky, Der Hals der Giraffe
