Having known some twins (identical and fraternal) so that I've observed their paired relationships, I found this book interesting. Knowing some adoptees who are considering looking for their birth families, I gained a few tips on where/how to help them search and learned of barriers erected by the state of NY.

The idea of finding an identical twin I personally think must be quite strange -- especially as an adult who has lived life as "one of a kind" up to that re-united point. However, it could have clearly been an article rather than being padded into book length. Enticed by the review in the NYT, I was disappointed in this book. It just did not have the flow nor the philosphical aspect I anticipated. Too bad I spent alot on a hardcover and shipped it to a friend in Europe (think she'll wonder why I sent it). The cover says "entertaining and compelling". Although I have never enjoyed BK's novels, I thought the premise of this book was interesting. Quite an endeavor & one I likely could not/would not undertake. But it brings up many good issues, provides some good recipes and meal ideas, increases my worry over lack of water in the SW U.S. and makes me appreciate bananas.

I really enjoyed it, but wonder how much of it was taken from the published account of the woman (was it a thesis, now I don't recall) who actually experienced it. I read this in preparation for my first visit to India and to fill the woeful gaps in my Indian history. Very well done. It helped me better understand the thrill but difficulties faced by the indians as the Brits left, the creation of Pakistan, the religious and caste issues which continue on. With the rise of India, it would be a good read for anyone. ]]>
