Eldest (Inheritance, #2) byChristopher Paolini
This installment of The Inheritance Trilogy is much better than the first (Eragon) but that was to be expected. Paolini writes some really exciting battle segments and develops his characters nicely. There is a not-so-surprising twist - but a twist nonetheless that opens up tremendous possibilities in book three - but I felt that in the last third there were elements too reminiscent of The Empire Strikes Back that made me feel was a bit of a sellout. ERAGON was full of cliche and 'been there, done that' with the unwitting chosen hero and the mysterious older mentor but, again, as his first book and in this type of genre it's expected and can be overlooked. As fantastic as ELDEST is, I was disappointed by those Empire-esque moments. Overall, though, a good read and I recommend to anyone interested in fantasy/scifi.
