"Such an amazing book. I read it a while after I read Ender's Game, and it gives a whole different perspective to the same thrilling story. I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed Ender's Game and those who enjoy science fiction.

Gates of Fire, by Steven Pressfield, is an incredible book. If you have ever seen the movie 300, or wanted to but did not because it looked too bloody, this is the perfect book for you. Gates of Fire is basically the same story, but the graphic battles are on a paper instead of on an HD TV. This way, you can enjoy the same story without having to visualize the blood and gore. Through Gates of Fire, I have come to appreciate the amazing combat skills of the Spartans and learn about the true story of the battle between the Greeks and the Persians. For readers who like fast-paced page-turners, this is definitley a great choice....less

I really enjoy science fiction, and Fahrenheit 541, by Ray Bradbury, is really up there in that genre. The novel describes a society in which new ideas are feared and books are burned. It really makes a reader think about the world we live in today and if it will ever be like Bradbury's creation. The protagonist, Guy Montag, is a fireman who burns books. He goes through many emotions through the book, and Bradbury describes Montag's thoughts and feelings in such a way that we as readers begin feeling those emotions as well. Fahrenheit 451 is the kind of book that really gets readers thinking. If you like to contemplate the meaning and messages in books, this would be a great choice....less

Silas Marner, by George Eliot, is a very interesting book about a weaver named Silas Marner. He is shunned by his town because of a crime he did not commit. Silas leaves his town and moves to another area. He becomes a very solitary person and makes no friends in his new community. Because of his weaving jobs, Silas becomes very wealthy. Soon his money is the most important thing to him, practically his only reason for living. It is interesting as a reader to watch this individual convert from a respected and outgoing man to a solitary old miser, then back to his normal self as different events occur. I learned that while having money is a good thing, it is important to remember the other aspects of ones life. This book also opened my mind to other, more difficult pieces. I recommend this novel to advanced readers who enjoy reading books with excellent language use....less
