It is very easy to read for a history book (almost a text). I think anyone that is interested in this period of American history would enjoy it....less

This book, while still showing the old West to be as brutal as it probably really was, has a wistful note to it. Woodrow Call has now grown old, his only son, that he never acknowledged is dead and his one friend, Gus McCrae, died some years before. All he knows is killing outlaws but he is too old to even do that well. Larry McMurtry is a good story teller when he chooses to be and this is one of those times....less
