This last week I have spent some time discovering Italian Christmas Traditions (since my family is Italian and we have a Christmas celebration steeped with tradition). I came across this book and picked it up for an afternoon read. I'd never read comics before, but it was sort of a fun change. There is just something unique about Italian families, and Tinnell's story made me think about my own family. I didn't like the bad language used, but it did make me think of my Poppi's frequent use of "Goddfrey David," which made me smile. There are recipes for the Feast of the Seven Fishes in the back of the book. I must have a deficient or at least different sense of humor. Or maybe I just need auditory stimulation to really get me rolling with laughter. I thought this book was okay, but just like the other Dave Barry book I read, I didn't love it. This account is both heart breaking and inspirational at the same time. I had tears streaming down my cheeks beginning at the dedication page and on and off throughout the rest of the book. Immaculee tells her story of survival during the Rwandan Holocaust. And she survives because she turns her life over to God. Time and time again, she prays to God, trusts in Him, listens for Him, has faith that He will hear her and bless her, relies on Him to help her forgive and to love. And God is with her and she is His daughter. The miracle is, that we each can have God in our lives, we can all truly become his children. Immaculee shares this message with her readers. ]]>
