So much fun! This is why I read books geared towards youth. I had a great time discovering a modern-day world where the Greek gods still rule in secret. The book had so many great references to old myths, and I LOVE that Percy has ADHD and dyslexia. I look forward to the rest of the series, and to the movie!

This book is the fascinating story of Henry and Clare, two lovers whose lives are inextricably intertwined by Henry's "chrono-impairment", or his tendancy to time-travel inadvertantly. I absolutely loved the story and thought the way the Niffenegger weaved their experiences together and revealed new pieces to the puzzle was bordering on genius.

That said, there is good reason I docked two stars from this book's rating. First, the language was deplorable. I overlook probably more than I should as far as some books go, but this was ridiculous. Honestly, the "f" word on every page? Really? Even given that the book is written first-person via Henry and Clare's perspectives, it was insane. Second, the amount of time the characters spend in bed is also a bit far-fetched. While I get that the author was trying to illustrate how much they love each other regardless of how much time they've been together, the whole "I can't possibly keep my hands off of you now that you brushed my hand" kind of stuff got really old. If she really thinks that married people act that way, I can understand why she might be dissatisfied after a few years of marriage. It's not that the attraction and desires fade after a few years. If anything, they get stronger. But these two seriously had to get naked every time they made eye contact.

I know fairy tale retellings are getting a little out-of-hand, but I like the genre. So sue me! I enjoyed this particular retelling of "The Twelve Dancing Princesses." I especially liked the hero, Galen, and his knitting prowess.

Immortal is the story of a girl who is shipped off to an obscure boarding school in England. She finds herself entangled with a strange boy there and falls in love with him...chaos ensues.

The book vascillates between the diary of Agnes, the last heiress of the house the boarding school resides in, who died a hundred years or so ago, and the modern-day story. Agnes' diary and her story, for me, was the redeeming feature of this plot. I liked how the author weaved the stories together and revealed things indirectly. However, I just didn't fall for the heroine or her odd boyfriend. I couldn't see what attracted her to him at all. In fact, I spent most of the book hoping she'd kill him, somehow. Don't know if I will pick up the sequel or not.

I read Gigi's review when she said she was going to sponsor this book for the club. I'm seriously so sad that I can't be there for that. The book has a lot of interesting themes that would make for great discussion! And yes, I do read Shannon's blog (we're on first name basis).
