It was wonderful to learn more about this famous scientist and his life and legacy. I was intrigued by the science. The organization of the book was a bit different, by subject rather than chronologically, though it seemed to work. I would have liked to have seen more biographical stories, especially from his early life, and a bit more editing down of some of the long quotes they take from Eyring's talks and sermons. But overall, I learned a lot and was better for the experience of reading it....less

Once again, I'm conflicted on how many stars to give this book. Did I enjoy reading it? Yep, probably 3.5 stars. Was it well-written, wonderfully insightful, a must-read? Nope, just 2 stars. It was probably the reading equivalent of eating a container of Oreos: really fun and satisfying, but not much nutrition or substance to it all.
I've not seen the movie and don't plan to, but the book WAS a lot of fun to read. ...less

The more I read this series, the less I like it. The plot lines are really imaginative, and I enjoy some of the bantering conversations in the book and the humor, but I was honestly bored most of the way through the book. There is no engagement of the reader in these books -- no clues to pick up on, no foreshadowing, just one sticky situation after another. The characters are flat and there just isn't any depth to this. Lots of the subplots don't come together or make much sense (I suppose they'll resolve in the later books?)....less

I couldn't decide whether this was a 3 or a 4 star book -- probably 3 and a half, so decided to be generous. I expected something much different and more formulaic, so I was pleasantly surprised by this fantasy. The author's dry sense of humor was what sold me on the book -- the twists of fate and ironic happenings were fun to explore. There wasn't a ton of character development, but it IS a kids' book.
Very imaginative and creative!...less

I picked this up at the library the other day and read it all in one evening. It really resonated with me -- perhaps because I'm about to have our 7th child and it's nice to feel that I'm not alone, even if the author's youngest is probably my age by now! Her stories and insights were like listening to a good friend a bit further on in life. She gave some practical suggestions, but mostly just told stories and wrote about what she finds most worthwhile about life. Reading it made me resolve to study the scriptures more and to enjoy the journey of motherhood a bit more....less
