"The Happy Housewife. PArtly depressing, partly 'laughing-out-loud funny' and partly depressing again. However, I guess it happends to some people. Don't read it if you're pregnant!!!

This is Amitreyi's touching answer to a book written about her by a Romanian student who lived in her father's house, in India, during her teenage years and who, in his book - Bengali Nights - claimed to have had an intense and intimate relationship with her during that time. Maitreyi finds out about the book and her alleged relationship with the Romanian student after many years, when she is a grown, educated woman. She decides to tell her own story.
The Romanian student who, at 21 had received a scholarship to study Hindi and the Hindu culture in India, is none other than Mircea Eliade, who later became one of the greatest philosophers of the 20th Century, an illustrious Professor who taught at various prestigious European and American universities and the author of The History of Religious Ideas and Beliefs, among another few dozen fiction and non-fiction publications.

This is potentially one of the worst books I have ever come across. Apart from the obviously thoroughly researched scientific facts and formulas (which, by the way, to the common reader don't mean much), the book was a complete waste of time and painful to go through. Actually, it felt like the story itself was stiched togehter in a hurry as a pretext for the author to dazzle us with mathematics, physics and chemistry. Yuk!...less
