This was at once very disturbing and wonderful! I loved Ms. Jamison's descriptives of such violent flights of fancy during her mood shifts. I related to the fear and obsession that comes with manic-depressive illness. I agree with her that calling the illness Bipolar Disorder (I have type II) is not nearly descriptive enough for this illness. The icy coldness, and isolation that the north and south poles bring to my mind have nothing to do with the wildness that fills the mind and soul with mania, and the black nothingness that comes with the depression that follows.
