Picked this up off the free shelf at the library so I had nothing to lose by adding it to my stack of books to read. Since it has a Christmas theme I decided to finally get around to reading it. This is not my usual genre (romance) but it was okay - fairly clean which I appreciated. I liked "A Bright Red Ribbon" the best and found myself skimming the others. I found "Twelfth Night" to be too "blah" for my taste and would say that one is my least favorite. I liked this better than "'Tis" because he didn't seem to make the mockery of teaching. Okay, before my friends on here are shocked out of their seats by this post,let me explain myself!!! No I am not considering a change in my religion. I won this book from Goodreads First reads, and I signed up for it first because it was a FREE BOOK! and also because I have read some slanted books about fundamentalist Mormans so I thought this would give me a view into the Mormon Church today. Plus, I love to read about other cultures, countries and religions too. After having read "Under the Banner of Heaven" and "The 19th Wife" which are both very slanted, I felt this book would give me a look into what LDS followers believe today. As I read, I must say there are more similarities among Christians than differences - don't get me wrong, each religion has its differences but I think we (Christians) are more alike than different. Having noted that there are similarities, I feel I must also comment on the differences - I cannot wrap my head around baptizing someone after they have died. Definitely, I think this book would be useful for a person who wants to know how this faith relates to the Bible and for a person who is Mormon to explain to someone about their religion. I gave it only 3 stars because it was heavy on scriptures and sharing information - it was informative. I use 5 stars for unforgettable books that I can never part with, where 3 stars shows it is worth reading, but it will not stick with me forever. I will be passing it on to my Mormon neighbors across the street and hope they will find it helpful and wonderful! Thanks Christopher Mills for sending me your book! My book club picked this book for a light read in December. This is one of my favorite books and even though I have read it at least 7 times now, I still love it. I taught for 8 years and I guess part of the humor for me is that every school has its own version of the Herdman family - I know where I taught did! I read this book with my fifth graders before Christmas break each year and I believe they enjoyed it too. Picked this one up at the library to increase my knowledge of my faith to help me teach CCD this year. The book explains various Catholic traditions such as confirmation, advent, lent, sign of the cross, penance, etc. It was a little dry but provided some insight for me. I was surprised at the beginning of the book and then when I read the author's information that he is affiliated with Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio.
