This makes me think of something I saw while I was waiting for the Sandoz at the airport (they were the last through customs, of course...). I was sitting next to a young woman (I'd guess max 18) kind of punk goth, and her mother (the father was there but not sitting down). They were waiting almost to the end as well. Then a young goth punk man came through the door and the young woman leaped to her feet and ran and threw herself into the arms of the guy, embracing passionately, as the mother said to anyone who was listening 'this is the first time they've met in person'.

Has Samantha read Island of the Blue Dolphin? that was my favorite book at 13, it has gory parts, but a great story of survival of a young girl and her brother abandoned on an island off of California (inspired from a true story). I've reread it as an adult, still think it is great!

Sometimes, if you let it, good stuff happens. I accidentally left my back pack with all my airplane reading materials at the conference center, so I had to buy something to read on the plane. I went to three books stores looking for something specific, and at the third one I gave up, and just picked a book from a prominent display. This book. I had read his The Power of Now, which I liked, but I can't remember much from. This new book is fantastic. It is about getting beyond ego to consciousness. I have a habit of turning down the corner of a page when there is something I want to go back to (I can't bring myself to writing in a book!) and I have to say, now that I have finished reading, it looks like an accordion. A word of warning: he does use some terms that my ego doesn't like, but if I could shush it long enough the point he is making can come through. He also quotes Jesus and others, but his interpretations are very spiritual and consciousness oriented, so the book does not feel at all preachy. Just enlightening!

Okay, it IS a science book, but it was really interesting! The author is a cell scientist, and by understanding cells and quantum physics, he sets out to show that our beliefs really do change our biology. I think he does a good job. This also makes a case for why alternative and eastern medicine works, based on energy. He writes in a way that is easy to read in spite of the scientific content. There is a chapter on parenting, and the effect that parents' beliefs and messages have on children (born and unborn), so I hope I was thinking good thoughts when I was responsible for another life!
