Anyone who knows who John Holt is will probably want to read this book just because he wrote it. He was a wonderful researcher and educator who loved children and wanted to find out exactly how they learn best. This book is such a perfect companion to Te Thomas Jefferson Education books because it shows us specific examples of how capable children are of learning ON THEIR OWN. Holt even shows us some instances where the direct teaching or explanation of a concept actually detracts from the learning process and makes the student more confused than had you just let him figure it out on his own. What?? God made it possible for us to just learn stuff through our own discovery process?? Crazy!!
