Sandy and Michael were best friends in hig...more This was a nice, easy contemporary that actually made me cry near the end--always a good sign for me. It had likeable, believable characters, an interesting plot, and some heat. Not a bad half day read.

Sandy and Michael were best friends in high school, although not romantically involved. They were just best buds, and knew they could always count on each other. After school, they drifted apart, each going on different paths and careers. After college, Michael became a chiropractor and got married and had a son, while Sandy became a payroll manager and had a bad romantic relationship that ended up affecting her whole future.

When Sandy starts being bothered by constant headaches, her best friend and office mate refers her to the wonderful chiropractor who she sees, Dr. Carlson, and makes the appointment for her. Sandy has no clue that it's Dr. MICHAEL Carlson, her old high school friend who she hasn't seen in nearly 13 years. After their mutual surprise at seeing each other again after all the years, Sandy and Michael pick up where they left off, soon falling right back into the easy relationship they once shared. Michael tells Sandy about his failed marriage, and about how his ex kidnapped their 4 month old baby, and how he's been searching for him for nearly 2 years. Sandy tells Michael about her failed love affair, and how she suffered a devastating miscarriage. But she doesn't tell him how that miscarriage changed the future that she always dreamed of. They start spending time together, going places and just hanging out. Sandy and Michael also realize how attractive their best bud is to them, but feel a little weird about taking it further. After all, neither wants to lose the friendship they've re-established if the other doesn't feel the same way. But after spending more and more time together, neither can deny the sexual tension they feel, and they become intimate. When Michael wants a future with Sandy, she panics and tries to break it off, before finally realizing she needs to level with him and tell him why they can never have a happy future together-- that sometimes it takes more than love to make a relationship work. But how will Michael react when Sandy reveals her big secret? And will Michael ever be able to track down his missing baby boy?

I must admit I was a little disappointed in Michael's reaction to Sandy's secret, although I found it entirely believable. The author does a good job of showing that each character isn't exactly perfect, which made them seem more real to me. By this time I was so invested in the characters and their story, that I wanted them to make it work. I also liked how in the beginning the author had the characters get to know each other again, and didn't have them immediately jump into bed together, but when they eventually did I could feel that they loved each other, and that it wasn't just lust. The last couple chapters had me tearing up, and even though there was a HEA, I thought it was a bit rushed and the book ended rather abruptly. I would have liked to have seen an epilogue, because when I was done reading I thought, "That's it?" But all in all, a pretty good read, one that I could easily recommend and one that will have me digging for this author's other books out of my TBR stack....less "

Yay, we did it! I'm thrilled we are finally friends. The funny thing is I always thought you were one of my friends, because we post on so many of the same reviews, since many of my friends are yours too (the romance and erotica addicts here at Goodreads). So your comments are always coming up on my homepage. Imagine my surprise when I realized this morning we weren't friends. But we fixed that, didn't we?!
