"Rowling is a very good writer who tells an engaging story. I picked up the first one with some scepticism, but rushed out to get the rest as soon as they came out. Few writers hold my attention like Rowling has.

I'm in the process of reading all of the Dresden Files books. They are easy reads and fun, and he writes characters I can care about. But more importantly Jim Butcher has done something that few writers have ever done for me; make me laugh out loud while reading. It's not just a one off for him. He does this consistantly from book to book. I love his writing style and up until now it has been rare that a writer will make me put the book down long enough to enjoy a really good laugh. Now understand, these books are not written as comedy like Terry Pratchett's Disc World series, so the humourous moments are randomly interspersed throughout the book, and humor is not the point of the exercise, which, for me, makes those moments all the more special....less

I read this book on the recommendation of writer and historian John J. Miller (Our Oldest Enemy) whose work I admire and whose opinion I respect. I have to say though that for me this book was decidedly underwhelming. I understand Ferrigno is mostly a mystery writer, and I may have to pick up one of his other books to fairly compare it to this one. The reviews of this book touted it as raising the fear of an Islamic take over of the United States, however the only fear it raised in me was that there would be a sequel. Even as a mystery novel it fell quite short of the mark as I had figured it out by chapter two. The characters were not in the least bit engaging, nor was the action at all stimulating and the plot was shallow and transparent. There was no tension, no mystery and no characters about whom I cared one whit. There is great potential for stories to be written on the subject of an Islamic take over of the US and the world, but I'm afraid this wasn't it. ...less
