I couldn't wait to get my hands on Waters new novel, "The Little Stranger". Fingersmith was so popular at our store and it became a favorite among so many of my friends that when I saw Waters new book had been nominated for the Booker Man, I expected a winner and was not disapppointed. I admit, I love a good scary read and especially if it's dripping with atmosphere. The Little Stranger did not disappoint. All of the cozy expected elements are there....the crumbling manor, the upper class family fallen onto hard times. Waters conjures the dread and fear that one would expect if one were being "haunted". This book continues to haunt me days after reading it.Fingersmith

Much anticipated, but in the end not my favorite Conroy book. I love Conroy's ability to portray people and place. Still my favorite, Prince of Tides. if you only saw the movie....it did an injustice to a wonderfully rich and complicated book. The film adaptation did an autopsy of a wonderful story and what was left....just scraps.

This book was CRAZY good. I couldn't put it down and understand why some might find it completely perplexing but it is a book that reminds me of groundbreaking reading such that I got from "Being Dead". It deserves a complete nod from reviewers, those confounded readers that loved Bridget Jones Diary but choose to be stretched beyond the romantic form...I absolutely loved it and only after reading it to the end understand the title completely. It is unexpected and has shades of Miss Havisham.... what a yummy good book.

This isn't my favorite period in history....Salem Witch Trials and all but there is relief from the stifling atmosphere and social constraint that existed back then for Salemites...particularly of the feminine persuasion. Howe laces a modern day mystery into the period Salem Witch trial story and thus creates a book that reminded me a bit of "The Historian" and/or "People of the Book"

Completely agree, training to run any distance is a process and you should use
knowledgeable resources to build a PLAN for yourself. For someone that hasn't run at all....coolrunning.com is great with a podcast you can download called "Couch to 5k in 12 weeks". I live in Portland....a real running town and Alberto Salizar is a local luminary for us runners. He is always warning everyone about
overtraining. A good running plan will include rest days, build days....short run days...you get the drift.

I also just joined a new group on good reads called "Run for Your Life"
