I finally got this from the library, and it was such an enjoyable read. It's the kind of book that I would have enjoyed as a youth, and the kind that still makes me smile. I've been traveling to Mount Eskel all day in my mind and enjoying it immensely. I haven't reviewed anything I've read for a while, so I thought I'd put this one up, even though I'm not sure what I thought of it. Set in Poland in WWII, it is of course a bit depressing, and I wasn't sure I liked the ending. It's an interesting read though -- the moral dilemas make you think and the characters are interesting and the plot easily draws you in. I found this book very interesting and thought-provoking. It definitely opened my eyes to a different culture and practices, and I thought it had a lot to say on friendship and empathy. I can't say that I really related to the close relationship between Lily and Snow Flower, even though I have some close female friends. I always enjoy Miss Marple. I love the idea that this prim old lady who hasn't been out of St. Mary Mead can solve crimes because she is such a good student of human behaviour. That said, some of the solutions take a lot of leaps, but it's still a fun read. ]]>
