It was a mixed bag for me. The suggestions for books were great and I read some novels I had never heard of and probably wouldn't have ever read because of the suggestions here. It was, however, disappointing trying to discuss elements of the novels and there being zero interest, or there just not being time for them to do so.

This is a fictionalized account of a couple who spread anti-Nazi propaganda via a series of post cards that they leave in public places.

While stories that are based on real events are far from the original story, the important details are maintained, and this is one of the most disturbing aspects of the book: everyone was fearful of even something as simple as writing negative comments about the government, and with just cause, as the couple is eventually caught and sentenced to death.

These elements, as well as their trial, seemed so far-fetched, so unbelievable as to be something from a satirical novel about some dystopian future. That they really occurred is shaking and has me wondering how it could have come to be. While I always knew the Nazis were "bad," I never knew just how fearful even the common people living under their rule were.
