Really good. Her writing is great and she knows how to acknowledge/describe emotions that sometimes I think people feel they might be the only ones having (and in the setting of like late 1800s early 1900s which can be hard to relate to for a modern ...more

I read this for a book club. I liked what I learned about Florid history but the characters were too stagnant and perfect. No growth or flaws. The dialog with stilted at best.

Yup, it's as good as its "classic" label would lead you to believe. A manifestation of the universal themes of life that make it epic and particularly human at the same time.

Hi characters are always so "flawed" - so strange, so human - to be a little cliche there but really. This story of a strange, determined (or nuts) young girl and how her journey affects everyone she meets. It's one of the easier Faulker reads.

I love Faulker and I've never met a book of his I haven't like. If you like Faulkner this should maybe even be the first one of his you read.
