But here is my confession. As a general rule, whenever I feel like that - the feeling that I'm the kind of person that should like some particular author, band, what have you - I stay away. Far away. I'm always afraid that I will like it. And then I'm a predictable douche. Never mind that it is now predictable that I'll stay away from everything and anything that anybody believes to be hip.

I usually succumb to curiosity at some point, however, and then I like what I like. But I'm at least happy to say I don't give a fuck about Led Zeppelin, the Arcade Fire, or Chuck Pahlalandiguhk. I thought it fitting at the time because I had lost so many friends to murder, suicide and prison sentences. But now I look back and realize that, while most of those kids were good kids, not many of them even had good minds, much less the best minds.

Regardless, I'm not much for tattoos these days and I'm glad I made it to this point without getting any. ]]>
