This book sheds blinding light on the sad, disgraceful state of journalism, academia and the media in America today. If you do not think this country is really becoming cripples by the poisons of political correctness, please read this book and think deeply about it. Kesey's second novel tells the story of the Stamper family, a logging clan in the fictional Wakonda, Oregon continuing their logging work while the rest of the local industry strikes. "A semi-fictional account of Dostoevsky's four-year term in a Siberian prison camp. 'Twas written before he reached his creative peak, but in this book you can feel him ready to break out and unleash his genius upon the world.

A murder mystery, love triangle, family saga, psychological treatise, philosophical musing and an exploration of God and the Devil and heaven and hell all at once, with a beautiful little side-story of a dying boy and his dog; this is of course one of the greatest novels ever written, and one would be doing himself a disservice to not at least make a whole-hearted effort at it. ...less
