Matt goes on a many year journey to try to understand the fanatical left and right. He attempts to persuade the 911 Truth movement that their beliefs are insane, he infiltrates a crazy cult-like church in Texas giving us an up front look at the bible thumpers on the far right and finally goes inside the workings of the Bush Congress to show us that, in the end, what drives our laws and regulations are what keeps the big wigs in office and satisfies their coffers. As he says, its Terrifying....less

If you're an Eggers fan....here's something that's kind of interesting. There's a rather lengthy short story that sort of follows up on Egger's book "You Shall Know Our Velocity". The main character of the short story is new...but she goes to visit the fun loving character from the novel, "Hand"! It took me about half way through the story to realize that I knew this character, but man was I pleasantly surprised! I loved the goofy prankster "hand" in "Velocity" and it was great to have a little follow up....less

I wish I was a reader back in the early 90's. This would have been a lot more interesting, I think. It's the typical dooms-day scenario that Crichton loves to preach. Japan is taking over America, not via warfare but by hostile take-over type business tactics that are a way of life in Japan, but aren't politically correct here. Anyway, 15 years later and it doesn't seem much different then how he describes it. Japan has business interests here, but not to the extent that Crichton was predicting.
This book is a pretty quick read, but it never really drew me in the way his other books (Prey, Jurassic Park, Congo, The Andramada Strain, etc.) have. ...less

What I've always loved about Eggers is his humor. You can't really be humorous about genocide. While the story of this man is incredible, I had a hard time finishing this one up.
His story will truly lead you to better appreciate your own life and the benefits that we have here in the US or wherever you are that has an internet connection. It gives you some perspective, when it comes down to it life is pretty easy in the modernized world.....the "Lost Boys" of Sudan were brushed aside by their own people and left for dead. The story of Valentino Achak Deng survival is awe inspiring....less

This book is for all sports fans. The author goes to great lengths to answers ridiculous sports questions that are only asked after drinking for hours. As the title suggests, he actually played a game of tennis with Andy Roddick, wherein Roddick used a frying pan as a racket. He also has his friend race an Olympic sprinter with the aid of one of those walkways in the airport. He even plays beer pong with a professional dart player! This book is hilarious, and it's very interesting to see how these athletes fair in competition outside of their normal environment. This is a real fast read. You could probably finish this in a day or two with proper time and motivation....less
