This book is pretty much my dream life come to fruition...but without all the hard work. Beekeeping, keeping chickens, growing your own food, it's all so appealing and Jenna makes it all seem so possible. I have to admit I was a bit leary when she writes in the intro that "A window box salad garden and a banjo hanging on the back of the door can be all the freedom you need", but I was won over completely. I even loved the chapter on banjo and fiddlin' and I'm even making plans on how I can attend the Old Timer's Music Festival in the Smokey Mountains this spring. I wanted to like this book, but the truth is I could barely get into it. I stopped 80 pages in and had to put it down when I realized that this book was giving me nothing. It was a slog, the plot kept getting sidelined with details and side-events that I just couldn't bear it any longer. That's what I get for blindly picking a book off of the library shelf.
