In this exciting third book to the Ranger’s Apprentice series, young apprentice Will and the maid girl Evanlyn, or at least that’s who Will thinks she is, find themselves in hopelessness with no form of escape on a Scandian ship months from the coast of Araluen. It seems that they are bound for a dull, painful life as slaves… if they can even stay alive. From thunderous storms and deadly waves to piercing cold the path ahead of Will and Elanlyn is one that no one would ever wish to take. Meanwhile back in Araluen, ranger Halt is forced to stay in the kingdom while the thought of his lost apprentice Will haunts his mind. Can he resist the urge to do something drastic? Will any of them make it through this?
First off, I loved this book! Usually I only like fast paced and action filled books, and I found this one to be filled with bursts of action, but slow moving, and somehow I loved it! So it doesn’t matter if you like your books fast paced or slow paced, you just have to read it! The way Flanagan incorporates a bombardment of magnificent writing and middle age type, fantasy sword fights gives even more readers a chance to love this book: fantasy… action… suspense… whatever you like just read the book! Once you persevere through the first few chapters you’re hooked like a fish and just can’t stop reading!

Eleven year old Gregor’s life hasn’t been the greatest. He lives in a shabby apartment and his mom works full day, everyday to get enough money for his family. Gregor’s life is turned upside-down when he follows his baby sister, Boots, down an air vent and falls miles into a strange underground city, the Underland. After being greeted by an array of giant creatures and strange people, Gregor is dying to get home. No matter how hard he tries, the Underlanders won’t let him go. Gregor’s many questions go unanswered until he finds out about the prophecy. Could Gregor be the warrior it talks about? Could this prophecy help Gregor find his dad who went missing two and a half years ago?
This book is definitely one of the best I’ve read months. Any fantasy lover will find themselves hooked in the action filled twists and turns of Gregor’s life. Collins incorporates fantasy-like creatures smoothly into everyday life in this amazing kickoff of the Undlerland chronicles. This is definitely a book you have to read! The Underland is one of the most creative ideas I have ever seen, from giant bats to evil rats, this book is a page turner that you can’t put down. I still can’t quite figure out why, it’s not a mystery, it’s not a horror story, but I just couldn’t stop reading it! Once I devoured Gregor’s first journey, I just needed to read the next book and satisfy my hunger!
