This story is told mostly through the use of flashbacks- usually not a good story-telling technique, but it was effective and powerful in this case. I would say this book is sad, but it actually wasn't that bad because of how the book flows. Definitely gives you a lot to think about.

The Giver won't take people long at all. We can definitely be done with that one. I think it took me about 2 hours to read it. C&P is pretty hefty. It might take longer. We could always set the deadline for The Giver for the week before Christmas and make C&P for after the holidays.
