I have always wanted to learn their true story (I'm sure most of us have enjoyed the movie). I'm about halfway through and I just love this book! Maria acts very much the way Julie Andrews portrayed her (that's not always the case with movies). She is very fun and I'm in awe of her courageous (and humorous) life. There are really some "gems" in this book about her observations of human nature....less

"I read this book last summer to my daughters as we were in the moving process (and here we go again). His stories were very inspirational and your children can enjoy it because the chapters are only a few pages in length.

I would highly recommend this book to everyone! The author is now the wife of Elder Russell M. Nelson. She worked for at least 25 years as a family councilor. I love reading any talk about marriage from General Authorities, but I also know there are other wise people out there that give great council in enhancing your marriage.
She really is a wise woman who helps you to reflect and identify the small ways you can improve yourself and become closer to your spouse....less

I can't exactly remember when I read this book, but I loved it! I listened to the author speak on an Oprah Winfrey show. It was a first time for me to learn about how another culture eats and what we can learn from them (particularly the French, of course). It helped me think about savoring my food more and less of gulping it down (still could do better!). ...less

This is a fantastic book. I found his research so fascinating of how our Western food has become so politicized and confusing (those words could be synonomous).
For example in 1977, a Senate committee on nutrition advised Americans to cut down on red meat and dairy products (seeing that other cultures which ate less of these had better health, less prone to Western diseases of cancer, etc.). Because they were sharply criticized by some food industries for this, they changed their speech to "choose meats, poultry, and fish that will reduce saturated fat intake." Hence the confusion began.
This book will help you understand the dangers of our Western culture and just how to appreciate good food more (and not the extreme processed foods)....less

My husband thought I should post this up as I certainly deserve credit for taking a week to read it. :-) Keith just defended his dissertation and his committee was thoroughly impressed with his research and writing abilities.
He tells an interesting story of a society in southern Indiana who wanted to study the environment and neighbors of Lincoln's boyhood years. They were tired of the media portraying him growing up with uneducated unrefined people (many of these people were their ancestors). Anyway, it just explores how "ordinary" people can do history well and that academics should take interest in their interests. Keith could say it better, but that's my take!...less
