I really like the author's attitude, and appreciate her not generalizing (a pet peeve of mine is people who say "autistic people are like X" implying that the statement is true of all). The author also has an easy and interesting writing style which made it very enjoyable to read. I am never fond of "autistic people are like X" or "do Y" type of commentary in books because it tends to lead to stereotyping / incorrect assumptions by people who do not know better. Especially if a well known autistic author like Tammet makes a statement like "autism is defined by the presence of impairments affecting...imagination (...empathy, for example)" lay people are more likely to take such a statement as fact. When, in fact, the only fact is that if you've met one person on the autistic spectrum, you've met one person on the autistic spectrum, and none of us have identical characteristics.

Once those sorts of "autistic people are like X" type of statements are ignored, the remainder of the book--the autobiographical and personal material--is worth reading.
