I wish there were half stars here, I would give this 2 1/2. It was definitely a page-turner (I think I read it in two nights) and had tons of cool historical stuff, so I have no major complaints. It did seem to follow the obviously successful formula of DaVinci Code--Langdon caught off guard and pulled into a whirlwind mystery, lunatic guy who causes death and chaos and a beautiful, unrealistically intelligent girl. It's been at least twenty years since I read this (ooh, that makes me sound old!). I forgot how much I love this story, the characters, and the writing. Rare is the book where you come away feeling like you have been in the story. When I closed the last page I missed the characters. I can see why some people have called for this book to be banned; it opens wide many sensitive issues.
