I'm such a fan of James Whale's film that it's probably not surprising that I didn't like the book as much. It's not as solid as War of the Worlds, but a quick read. Another entertaining summer read. It's pretty fun, but I'm not so keen on Tom Sawyer's appearance. I'm also not so sure Nick Cave ever actually read the thing, though "Saint Huck" remains one of my favorite tunes by him. I've embarked on a journey to read some classic literature that I ignored the first time around, starting with this one. It's a very entertaining read, barring the fact that it takes place during the time of slavery. More nicely-paced western short stories, which in turn inspired some films, though I'm reluctant to seek out the flicks.
