I co-worker lent me this book after finding out I was a military history buff. The author also wrote 'Forest Gump' (I've only seen the movie).

The book is excellent. The attention to historical detail and bringing the whole history of World War I into the battles around Yrpes is done in a compelling way.

I learned a lot about World War I that I didn't know - like the huge tunnel mine bombs. The book also included personal stories based on letters home from the soldiers or diaries, and told the story from both perspectives (Allied vs Central).

I recently read 'Assassin' based on a friends recommendation and then I found out that Stephen Coonts has a lot of other books I haven't read. This one was great as the "first" and I look forward to many more books that build out the characters that are still going on with his current books. ]]>
