I've really enjoyed re-reading My Antonia. I like Cather's clever use of a male narrator who's voice is close to her own. For the effort I'm rewarded with a feel for the land at it's most elemental...Nebraska where one must bend to nature's fickle will. It's a memorial to the tenacity of our early immigrants who deserve our sympathy and respect....less

I know my brother thought it the best book he ever read. HMMM...Am I so very shallow? The tedium really got to me, (but maybe that's the point of survival).
In the end when he's telling his story, Pi is much more interested in cookies, made me think I really couldn't understand him at all...after all. I'm usually willing to enjoy symbolism as much as the next guy... where did I go wrong? I would benefit from being in a lit class and ponder a solid discussion....less
