For me this book was nothing special. It was incredibly slow in the beginning and while the ending does have its merits, it still was not as satisfying as I hoped it would have been. Also, the narrative voice was a little distracting and untrustworthy.

I have enjoyed Dostoevsky's writing since I first read "The Idiot" in my sophomore year of college. So there was no surpise to me when I found myself enjoying "Crime and Punishment" as well. Dostoevsky always manages to convey the psychology behind why his characters act the way they do without condoning those actions. I look forward to reading more of his books.
