I loved all of these books, though I haven't read the last one--I'm not sure why. But when I was in college I read the first 3 straight through--perfect historical/fantasy/time travel romance novels. All those typical romance fiction themes, but done really well--good writing, almost obsessive detail, a lively voice.
My only problem with the series is that Gabaldon seems to be christian or conservative or something--people only have sex once their married, unless its a rape or something, and homosexuality only shows up as this creepy, shameful obsession. It took me a long time to notice this because I liked the story so much, but it bothered me once I did. ...less
