I really liked this book. I've always loved mythology, and this series presents mythology in a light, humorous light that almost pokes fun at the quirks and tempers of the gods.
The main character is cute and likable, though I think in the first book he is written older than he is supposed to be. I work with 10, 11, and 12 yearolds, and he definitely didn't come across as the age he was supposed to be. I don't have a huge problem with that because the series, so far, is really light and enjoyable. (I'm listening to them on tape) They are easy to listen to and still exciting. I often feel like series' all follow the same pattern. The "Star Wars" pattern. This drove me nuts in Harry Potter to the point that I was saying "Harry, Harry, Voldemort is your father," and "The force will be with you Harry." This also drove me insane in the Eragon series, which was even more like Star Wars meets Lord of the Rings. "Eragon, Eragon, I am your father." And *SPOILER* you know the mentor is going to die, just like Obi Wan and Dumbledore. All that to say, so far I have NOT gotten the "great, its like watching Star Wars all over again" feeling with Percy Jackson.
I really like these books.
I recommend them for people who want light, quick reads that are unique and funny. ]]>
