I only had a few minutes at the library and was desperate for a book to listen to. I grabbed this book because I liked the title. Though it had some mildly interesting aspects, it was really just about depressed people who drink, smoke, and swear too much and never do anything useful in there whole lives. At the end of the book 2 out of the 3 main characters die pointless deaths. This book should really be part of Oprah's book club.

My most favorite books are ones with interesting characters. I have read a lot of books with really bad plot lines and have loved them because the characters are so interesting. Now this book, would be another typical private eye mystery book if it weren't for one thing—the whole story is told through the perspective of the private eye's dog, Chett. You pretty much know who did it and why by 1/4 of the way into the book, but it really doesn't matter because it is so funny. It is well worth reading especially if you need a pick me up. Personally, I always feel better about life if I am in the middle of a funny book.

This book is great if you are having any kinds of problems with your kid's behavior. I have been using the techniques in this book for the last three days and Matthew's behavior has already changed drastically. And the advice is so simple and easy to remember. It is especially great for getting your kids to cut out the whining. It is a quick read. There are some short chapters covering his method and then there is a large section in the back about dealing with specific problems. It is well worth the money to buy or a trip to the library.

In many books characters take journeys of one kind or another. Very few of these books makes it feel as if you are a part of that journey. This is one of those rare beautiful books that does just that. The author brings you into the story with laughter and in the end, might even bring you to tears as you go along with Elijah on his journey from boyhood to man. (By the way, I listened to this on audio and the reader did an absolutely amazing job. I'd be interested in knowing what some of you think of it when you just read it.)
